Dear Parents

Congratulations to Mr Found, the Rowing Staff, Coaches and Oarsmen on their wonderful achievements last weekend at the Selborne and Buffalo Regattas in East London.  A number of gold and silver medals were achieved and the 1st 8 won the 500m Selborne Sprint and the 2000m Buffalo 1st 8’s for the second successive year – this unprecedented achievement deserves all the accolades!  We wish them luck when they defend their title at SA Champs on 27 February.

We send sincere apologies to those who have been trying to make contact, via email, this week.  The mail server has been problematic and we have had a most erratic service.  Hopefully, matters are now on their way back to normal.

SPORT THIS WEEKEND

Cricket and Water Polo fixtures this weekend are against Rondebosch, our 1st teams playing host on de Villiers Field and at the Aqua Centre – your support will be greatly appreciated.

ASSEMBLY READING

A few weeks ago, Prefect Matthew Shaw, read the boys the following message,  entitled “Impossible” – I include for your interest and appreciation:

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men, who find it easier to live in a world they’ve been given, rather than to explore the power they have to change it.

Impossible is not a fact!!   It’s an opinion.

Impossible is not a declaration.  It’s a dare.
Impossible is potential!

Impossible is temporary!

Impossible is Nothing.

COMBI ALERT

We alert owners of Combis to take note of an unfortunate incident that occurred on Saturday during the Junior School Inter-House Athletics. Professional thieves - believed by ADT to be a syndicate - broke into two Combis belonging to SACS parents. The thieves know exactly what they are doing, taking mere seconds to gain access, disarm the alarm and remove the instrument panel from the dashboard. They also look for house keys that they link with the address usually found in the service booklet that most folk would keep in the cubbyhole. Last year, the same thing happened to a SACS family and we felt sure that, with six ADT guards on duty on Saturday, there would not be a repeat. ADT has supplied a report that we shall link to research with, and guidance from, the SAPS to see how we can combat the issue. Owing to the nature of attendance on the day, it is impossible to stop and check every vehicle entering the Estate. It is also not known whether or not the intruders gain access on foot. We do know that they are professional and are most likely to appear well dressed. In the meantime, we appeal to Combi owners of this problem that can arise anywhere, we assume. We shall let you know of any trends or advice coming from our communication with the SAPS.
