2010.03.05 NEWSLETTER NO. 7
Dear Parents We are constantly enhancing our technological / audiovisual teaching aids at SACS. In this regard all classrooms are linked to the Internet and SACS Network, have datavideo projectors and also laptops or desktop computers for the Staff. We have also installed smartboards in two rooms and ebeams (a cheaper version of the interactive smartboard) in 7 other laboratories and classrooms. These teaching enhancements are ongoing and the boys are deriving great benefit from them and staff are trained (by the service providers) and upskilled in these advancements.
SUBJECT CHANGES Parents, please be informed that the WCED will no longer allow us to register subject changes on their database as we are now 8 weeks into the 2010 academic year. Therefore, please do not make such requests as we are unable to accede to them UNLESS THERE ARE URGENT AND SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES, WELL-MOTIVATED BY AN EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST. ROWING The SACS oarsmen again achieved excellent results at the SA Rowing Championships held in Pretoria this past weekend. The best of these were: U14 Quad - stroked by Fieggen (5th out of 37 boats) U15 Double - stroked by Fouché (5th) Members of these crews were: J Fieggen, B Berg, R Mylrea, P Marsh, T Rush, J P Fouché and M Gawronsky. U14 Double - stroked by Marsh (3rd - Bronze Medal) U16 Pair - stroked by Delaney (2nd – Silver Medal) Members of the crews were: P Marsh, J Fieggen, R Delaney and N van Graan. U19 Pair - stroked by Davis (1st - Gold Medal) - an outstanding achievement by Leo Davis and Matthew Shaw. 1st (U19) 8 - stroked by Shaw - 1st (Gold) For the second consecutive year the 1st 8 won Selborne, Buffalo and SA Champs, only the 2nd time in SA Schools History that this has been achieved – the 1st time was last year by the 2009 SACS 1st 8. Congratulations to the crew of Michael Moir, Chris Gough, Nicholas Loydell, Martin Wicks, Tim Marsh, Matthew Shaw, Matthew Whitehead, Leo Davis and Karl Engelhard. Heartiest congratulations, too, to Mr Found (MIC), Staff members Messrs Skeat and Canterbury and Coach Brendan Gliddon. We also wish to record our sincere appreciation for all the hard work, blood, sweat and tears from our parents (under the leadership of Mrs Robbyn Moir) –your support was huge and is certainly not underestimated – THANK YOU! SURFING Congratulations to Benjamin Alheit who has been selected for the WP U16 surfing team – he will compete at the SA Championships in April. TRIANGULAR ATHLETICS SACS hosted an exciting Triangular Meeting on Wednesday, the 75th such Triangular between SACS, Bishops and Rondebosch – we value the great rivalry and the sporting and professional links we have with our friends at these two great South African Schools. Thank you to those parents who supported the event and the SACS Staff, under the leadership of Mr André van Wyk, who organised and executed a fantastic event. JAKE WHITE WINNING WAY RUGBY COACHING CLINIC We also hosted Jake White and his team of International Rugby Coaches from 1 – 4 March. They were most impressed with the school’s facilities and the organisation of the SACS Team, under the chairmanship of Mr Barry van Selm. Thanks must also go to Mr Richard Schultz, Mr Philip Samuels and their grounds and cleaning Staff for ensuring excellent facilities were on hand. PERCY MONTGOMERY SACS FOUNDATION LAUNCH Parents are reminded of this launch on Friday night at 7:00 pm in the Memorial Quad – it promises to be an outstanding and memorable occasion and we would love to see you there – the organisers have worked particularly diligently in securing sponsorships for food and liquid refreshments and the boys will be excellently catered for, as well. Yours sincerely K R BALL HEADMASTER |
