Role and Responsibilities of the SGB
The School Governing Body (SGB) is a statutory body of parents, educators, non-teaching staff and learners (from Grade 8 or higher) who seek to work together to promote the well-being and effectiveness of the school community and thereby enhance learning and teaching.
The SGB has a fiduciary (trust) relationship towards the school. The SGB’s role is to support the school administratively so that the educators may concentrate on their teaching.
The SGB essentially:
· assists the school with matters of administration, finance, discipline of the learners, etc and
· develops school polices aligned with the legal requirements of provincial and national policies.
Its work can be divided into six key functions:
· Steering
· Monitoring
· Support
· Executive
· Accountability
· Discipline
Members and Office Bearers
Chairman Kevin Wicht; SACS Old Boy, Served on the SGB for 5 years on various committees. Has a son in grade 11.
Treasurer Faldi Samaai; Responsible for the finances of both schools. He is an engineer by profession. Serves on the Building & Development Fund and involved in capital projects
Secretary Piero Granelli; He has two sons at SACS. Involved in the maintenance of SGB website. Other supporting duties.
Deputy Chairman Dave Johnson; He has four sons at SACS. Responsible for the finances of the Junior School.
Sally Hugo-Hamman Pooler Architect. Responsible for the Campus Plan and development of capital projects.
Russell Juds SACS Old Boy. Chair of the Hostel Committee. Involved in developing HR policies for the schools.
Stephen Clark Attorney by profession. He manages and develops legal policy within the schools. Other supporting duties.
Jean Herbert Attorney by profession. Former SGB secretary and assists with ad hoc projects .
